Main points

•    Choices, habits and other behaviors influence human health more than genetics, access to health care, or environmental exposures.

•    It is estimated that between 60% to 75% of humanity’s greenhouse gas emissions are traceable to choices, habits, and behaviors at the individual and household level.

•    Many health-giving behaviors – such as eating a plant-based diet, or walking and biking rather than driving – also serve to lower carbon footprint and protect the environment.

•    The aspirational goal of eco-wellness can be defined as “living life to maximize health, happiness, and environmental sustainability.”

•    The field of behavioral eco-wellness can be defined as “the study of how individual choices, behaviors, and habits impact both personal health and environmental sustainability.”

•    Something is an eco-wellness behavior if it serves to both improve mental or physical health AND contributes towards environmental sustainability.
